Although it can be found in other Croatian sub regions, it is the dominant grape variety in Istria. It is part of the standard wine selection with all wine producers. Its origin is unknown, although it is considered indigenous to Istria.

The first vineyards belonging to the Arman family were grown back in 1880 in a small town near Poreč. Since then, the wine business has become their way of life. During the nineties, Marijan Arman modernized the cellar, grew new vineyards and won numerous prizes for his wines.
